The sun dimmed in the sky too quickly for Eryn. Nothing about the evening would please him, and every moment that passed made the dread of it more real. Even Neith, who remained calm most of the time, seemed nervous for what was about to transpire. As dusk came, she dressed in a tightly fitting dress that hugged her hips and laced up in the back. It was a blue dress with lighter blue on the sides. To Eryn, she was stunning. He had never seen her in a dress, as they had been traveling for so long on the road. There had been no time for pleasantries such as finding dresses.

“I hate dresses,” Neith stated in a rough voice, unhappy with this part of the circumstances. “Impossible to move in. If anyone attacks me I’m done for.”

“Well, I know of one person who wants to attack you.” Eryn chuckled stupidly as he spoke and immediately received a glare from her.

The glare quickly turned into a smile, and she leaned in to kiss him. “Are you ready for this?”

“No. Are you?”

“No. Now, promise me you will stay calm. I will have to convince him to come to the room and I won’t be doing that by offering him food.”

Eryn had tried not to think about it all. He didn’t want to know about how she would lead him up to the room like a lamb to the slaughter. Neith would use every means necessary to succeed, even her appearance. There was not a single man that walked by Neith without giving her a look, and he couldn’t blame her for using all her devices to get what she needed. He only wished that he did not have to be present to witness it.

“I will,” Eryn promised, but didn’t know if it was a lie or not. He did not understand how he would react.

“Patience,” came the voice in his head. “Get the armor.”

Eryn shook his head as Neith adjusted her dress. Then she gave him a smile as she walked out the door. As she left, he felt her release her presence and could feel her power flowing through him. It was as if every Aelaar was constantly emitting a wave of something, and every other Aelaar knew it. He felt safe and connected to her as her presence washed over him. He could tell that it was her, and he smiled.

A second later another presence took over. When Neith’s feeling came to him it was like a wave in a pond, slowly bathing him in power. The one that hit him now was a boulder crashing into the same pond. His ears hurt as the ringing intensified and his chest felt as if it were about to burst. He didn’t understand how someone just being near him could make him feel this way. Was it this way for everyone? Or was it just because he was so young? He couldn’t be sure of how others felt, but he knew that this man was getting closer.
